After Annie gave birth last year to nine beautiful puppies on January 2, 2019, her next heat was almost exactly 6 months later. So, I expected her second heat after giving birth to be about 2 1/2 months ago. I guess nature really doesn’t care what I think, because it took another approximately 2 1/2 months before and she went into heat.

Yes, I’m certain that Annie entered into heat on Monday. There were certain signs by both Annie and Teddy that started about two weeks ago, that seemed to indicate the eminent start of her heat cycle. On Monday, we noticed the final sign, which would mean that on January 26 she will be at her most fertile time.

With all the knowledge that we gained from breeding Annie last year, we decided that if she accepts Teddy as a mate, this will be the last time that we breed her. It will also mean, that Annie at 70 pounds and Teddy at 75 pounds (so far), will most likely be celebrating some very large Airedale puppies somewhere around the end of March.

I’ve been anticipating this, and have recently run DNA testing on both Annie and Teddy. The DNA testing was not for lineage purposes, but for testing their genetic health conditions. I’m going to have a post about this genetic testing shortly. But for now I’m happy to say that both Annie and Teddy do not have any genetic health problems. The top rated canine DNA test that I used screens for 150+ genetic health conditions. Well, the good news is that both Annie and Teddy both passed their DNA testing with flying colors.

President Roosevelt claimed that “An Airedale can do anything any other dog can do and then lick the other dog, if he has to.”
