Airedale Puppy Arrives

As some of you may already know our large Airedale Oakley, passed on just before his 11th birthday this past August. Annie and Oakley were the first time we ever had two Airedales. After Oakley went over the rainbow bridge I occasionally thought about getting another Airedale puppy.

A couple of months ago I had put a deposit down on an a male Airedale puppy that was just a few weeks old at the time. But, unfortunately the breeder became ill and their partner wanted to keep that male puppy. Both Judy and I were sad that this little puppy which we thought was coming to our home was now staying with the breeder.

About three weeks ago, I received information that there were three larger size Airedale puppies back in the Midwest that were available. After reviewing the breeders information and checking the AKC lineage, and naturally quite a few photos of the puppy, we decided to make the commitment and provide Annie with an adopted brother.

I was hesitant because of the distance of having to fly the new puppy out the San Diego. After checking three airlines I was only able to find one that had a nonstop flight to San Diego . .. this was Alaska Airlines.

Our little eight week old Teddy was on his way out to us last evening. As we tracked the flight on the computer, I received a call from the Alaska airlines freight department, informing me that because of severe storms stretching over a number of states, but mainly in Texas, the flight path was changed to go around the worst part of the storm. This diversion added over 300 miles to the flight and then an hour additional flying time.

So it turned out to be a real long day for Teddy and when we finally met him at the freight terminal in San Diego, I could tell he was very tired and slightly apprehensive. But, once we opened the kennel and he came out he quickly warmed up to Judy myself my son and my son significant other.

We introduced Annie to Teddy outside of our house on the driveway. Teddy was a little frightened of Annie because she was excited to get a a smell of his sent. I think Annie wanted to see if this was a new doggie, or perhaps one of her puppies that left about two months ago.

To wrap up, we can see that Teddy is going to be a big boy. Teddy’s dad was over hundred pounds and his mom about 70/75 pounds!

My son is thinking of getting an Airedale, perhaps sometime before the end of the year. So, there just may be another Airedale on its way to San Diego in the near future
