Larger Airedales

Larger Airedales

The larger Airedale Terriers are known as Mountain Airedales or Oorang Airedales.

Even though these larger Airedale Terriers could be AKC registered, because they are so far beyond the breed standard measurements, they would not be allowed to enter any AKC sanctioned dog shows. But, how many of you were considering purchasing or larger Airedale Terrier to enter into dog shows anyway?

Personally, I feel that the larger Airedale Terrier is the ideal size companion dog. My male dog in this video is Oakley and he currently weighs in at 99 pounds! The smaller female, Annie, weighs in at 55 pounds. I realize there are a lot of detractors out there who pooh-pooh the larger Airedale Terrier, but the fact is that there are many who believe the AKC should formalize standards for the larger Airedale breed.

Now, The AKC recognizing other size dogs in the same breed is not that unusual. Consider the Schnauzer. The Schnauzer Dog breed actually has three sizes approved with set standards by the AKC.  There is the standard Schnauzer, the Miniature Schnauzer and the Giant Schnauzer!

I wish the dog world would just be HONEST and approve standards for the larger Airedales.

This dog is a terrier, and why some have to say things like “they might chase your cat” instead of the TRUTH, that as a terrier, it might well try and kill the cat—-it isn’t a crime for a terrier to “hunt”, another euphemism for “kill”.

I have had several terriers, and I loved em all. But they ARE little killers–“ratters” for example, they WILL kill a rat–so why not just say so? They are by nature, killers, in fact all dogs have that in them, but terriers lead the field. Why do think Pit Bull TERRIERS lead our nation in human fatalities, because they were ALL abused? Come on, love dem terriers but let’s tell the truth. And dig this, if you can agree that ANY dog can bite-maybe it has gotten old, or has a tumor, or is startled, would you rather have your kid around a 12 pound poodle that might “go off” or a 70 pound pit or Airedale? Be honest. And even if you don’t have a hart, do you really need the legal liability? Can you AFFORD the legal liability. Again, be honest. Now go ahead an yell at me, cussing helps too.
