Our two California Airedale Terriers:
Annie is 5 years old and Teddy is 9 weeks old.
Already, at 11 weeks old, Teddy weighed in at 25 pounds! Usually, as Airedales get older, their growth rates goes down and most of the time they reach their full growth at a year to 18 months.

When I examine the AKC registration lineage for Teddy, I noticed two larger (Oorang Airedale) breeders names that I recognized. So, there can be no doubt, that Teddy is an Oorang Airedale.
Up to now, the largest Airedale Terrier that I owned, was Oakley, who passed away at 10 1/2 years old. Oakley weighed 99 pounds and was one big fun-loving, intelligent companion. Our other Airedale Terrier, Annie, who is now five years old, and you can see in this video, lived with Oakley since she was a puppy, so for about, 4 1/2 years.
On January 2, 2019, Annie gave birth to nine beautiful puppies. After this, my wife and I felt that it would be better for Annie if she had another companion and so we were lucky enough to find Teddy.
So far, Annie and Teddy seem to be getting along just fine. Every day they’re playing together, running around, barking and having their meals at the same time.
I’ve had a number of people ask if we were going to breed Annie again, or breed Annie and Teddy together. Well, breeding dogs takes a lot of work and time and we’re still undecided on whether we will do it. But, with that said I’m pretty certain that were going to offer Teddy for stud services.
There are quite a few Airedale Terrier lovers, myself included, that believe the larger Airedales (75 – over 100 lbs) are the ideal size for this breed. Because the larger Airedale Terriers are outside the recognized AKC guidelines for Airedale Terriers, they cannot be entered into any AKC sanctioned shows. But, I believe it’s only a matter of time the order for the AKC officially recognizes the larger Airedales. The AKC has already done this with other breeds, actually not only recognizing larger but also smaller subsets of the officially approved guidelines.
