Having owned three Airedale Terriers, I can definitively say that they are pretty easy to train. Yes, the Airedale terrier is very smart, and so, proper training can be accomplished very quickly andeasily.
Airedale Terrier training will be easy if you Keep in mind to always be positive in your training! Also, because Airedale’s are so smart, they get bored very easily. Therefore, I would recommend to keep all training sessions relatively short.
Always have a good supply of biscuits on hand, so that when they do the correct behavior, you can immediately reward them.
With the Airedale, or any dog for that matter, you never want to punish them. To train an Airedale Terrier you must to reward it, no screams and no punishment. A dog needs love, security, firmness. Personally, I’ve always found training my Airedale to be both enjoyable and rewarding for both of us.
Thank you for your advise. I have never owned an airedale. I just fell in love with the breed. I had my first negative encounter with my airedale. He wanted his play time and I wanted to train. I placed him on a forse down several times and he became obstinate. He would sit on his own time and wound not get “down” when instructed to. This was a routine review we do. Later I discovered what he wanted while we went on a short walk. He would’nt warm up to me the whole evening. The following day he was a bit apprehensive. I reassured him as I rubbed down his back and the feud was over.
