Airedale Terrier Puppy Play – Larger Airedales

Teddy & Annie at 8 weeks old and 5 years old for Annie. Airedale Terrier puppies are real bundles of energy. They love to play, roughhouse and naturally get into mischief. At eight weeks old, their little teeth are like razors. Even though they’re just playing, you’re lucky to get a couple of days without getting a little puncture wound on your hand, your arm or your lower leg.

We tried to keep a lot of toys around for Teddy to keep them occupied and out of trouble. Well, perhaps I should say how to big trouble, because you can never keep an Airedale puppy completely out of trouble. It seems there’s always an article of clothing a pair of slippers or a newspaper that’s attacked by Teddy on a daily basis. I think the fact that he’s playing more and more with Annie these days, is keeping them out of real trouble.

Because we haven’t yet given him his third shot, that will be when he’s 12 weeks old, we don’t take them out with Annie for daily walks. When Teddy gets 12 weeks old, has his shot, he will be ready to go on short little hikes with Annie. Also, just to be very cautious, we will be giving him one final fourth shot when he reaches 16 weeks old. . Naturally, when he reaches six months old he’ll go to the vet for his rabies shot.

The main protection from the shots is for the Parvo virus. But, the shots we give also are a combination, and cover about five or six other types of dog bugs. Parov is super contagious and very easy to transmit not only from other dogs but from people’s clothing if they’ve come in contact with an infected dog. It’s much easier to keep your little Airedale puppy from other dog contacts and even other people, that may have dogs, at least until they have had their third shot that builds up their own immune system, then to try to cure this deadly virus in your little puppy.

If you are interested in hiking with your dog at Cowles Mountain, here is another video I shot with another camera about the Barker Way trail.

He is swift, formidable, graceful, big of brain, an ideal chum and guard. ….To his master he is an adoring pal. To marauders he is a destructive lightning bolt.”
