Larger Airedale Puppies

Two very cute mountain Airedale Terrier puppies:

The Oorang Airedale (also known as a Mountain Airedale or King Airedale) is the largest of the Airedales and can weigh 70 to 110 lbs.

Airedales are sometimes referred to as “King of Terriers” due to the fact they are the largest Terrier. They were developed for hunting otters and also to assist the police. Airedales are bred for hunting and working and because of that, they are independent, stubborn, and intelligent. When properly trained, they can be great family companions, but they need an engaged owner. Airedales have wonderful dispositions and are easily trained. The Airedale Terrier, is the largest member of the terrier group.

Airedale Terriers have broad versatility, intelligence, and unswerving loyalty.

A Mountain Airedale Terrier male can weigh anything from 60 to 125 pounds, with the female a little smaller. It has a coat of dense, harsh hair, with a softer and shorter undercoat. The standard coloring is tan with a black or drizzle saddle. The back is straight, and the tail fluffy, long and erect.

The lifespan of an Airedale Terrier is from 10 to 13 years, similar to other breeds of this size. It is a fairly sturdy breed, but some dogs are prone to eye infections, hip dysplasia and skin infections and need to be checked for these regularly. Hip Dysplasia, which is a genetic cause of arthritis, should be checked for in dogs that are being used for breeding. Skin infections can be discovered late in some dogs because of their dense coats.

Looking for a dignified, smart and courageous pet, whom you can give a good amount of time to, an Airedale Terrier is a very good choice for you and your family. Just remember that you need to be the alpha in the relationship – a weak owner does not work with an Airedale’s strong character.
