Well, this is not my standard controversial subject, but I’m sure it would make a good conversation starter.
Now I must disclose that I’ve never been a fan of fixing my Airedales.

Should you neuter your Airedale Terrier?

My dogs are purebred, AKC registered, and never out of my control. Why, would I want to ‘fix’ them?
Bottom line here, no matter what your opinion, is this is a well-rounded article that I think it be worth your time to read.

Long-Term Health Risks and Benefits Associated with Spay/Neuter in Dogs:

I have been researching this for so long, and it often feels like I am banging my head against a wall. I have lost track of the amount of times I have had to tell people that spay/neuter & responsibility are not synonymous. S/n does not a responsible pet owner make, & you can be completely responsible & own intact pets. I agree with everything you said, & it’s great to hear it coming from a Vet, as I am not, I’m just someone who cares & learns.

The Airedale Terrier (often shortened to “Airedale”), also called Bingley Terrier and Waterside Terrier, is a dog breed of the terrier type that originated in the valley (Dale) of the River Aire, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England. The Airedale was bred from the Old English Black and Tan Terrier (now known as the Welsh Terrier), the Otterhound and probably some other Terrier breeds, and has contributed to other dog breeds, such as the Yorkshire Terrier. Originally bred to serve as a versatile hunting and all around working farm dog, in Britain this breed has also been used as a war dog, guide dog and police dog. In the United States, this breed has been used to hunt big game, upland birds, and water fowl, and serve in many other working capacities.

He is swift, formidable, graceful, big of brain, an ideal chum and guard. …. To his master he is an adoring pal. To marauders he is a destructive lightning bolt.”
