Larger Mountain Airedales

Larger Mountain Airedales in California

These are a few photos of my two larger Airedale Terriers, any and Teddy. Annie’s six years old and Teddy is just 15 months old. In the photos, teddy is the taller one!

Originally, Annie came from Northern California and Teddy came from the Midwest. Annie weighs about 65 pounds, and so far Teddy weighs around 75 pounds. Teddy may be getting a little bigger, as usually they don’t hit their adult weight until at least 18 months old.

These larger Airedales love to get out on our local hiking trails and parks. One of our favorite hikes is up to the highest point in the city of San Diego, known as Cowles Mountain. There are two main trails up this mountain but we prefer the much wider and less popular trail that starts at Barker way.

Going up to the summit of the mountain takes us approximately 55 minutes, and provides a great workout for all of us. Plus, as we usually go later in the day to avoid the hottest part of the day, and to come up the backside of the mountain mostly in shadow, when we reach the summit, where usually rewarded with a great sunset over the Pacific Ocean.

Coronado Island

Our favorite dog beach site in San Diego is on Coronado Island. Just at the north end of the beach right next to the North Island Navy air station, is a dedicated off leash dog section.

The Coronado Beach has been consistently rated one of the best in the country and is home to one of the Navy SEALs training facilities as well as the famous Hotel Del.

San Diego City night lights

One of the best views of the San Diego downtown skyline is looking east from Coronado Island. Personally, I think the nighttime views of the San Diego skyline from here are actually the best.
